I’ve known that it would be a wise idea for me to get a tether for my phone, since I’m often taking it in and out of my pocket while in the mountains, to either capture adventurous moments and picturesque scenery or to use it for maps/route guidance. The thought had been on the back burner for a while, and I finally decided to pull the trigger on purchasing a KOALA. Before getting my KOALA, I would sometimes hesitate to take my phone out, due to weather conditions or surroundings (what is or isn’t below me). As long as I’m in a safe spot to do so, I have no hesitation doing it now. Many of my adventures also take place in the winter, so it’s not always a smooth process to retrieve my phone and put it back, but I have zero worries about dropping it since using my KOALA.
If a trip doesn’t go as planned (aka sh*t hits the fan), I have everything I need with me to survive a night in the mountains. Included in that equipment is my phone (backups for maps/navigation/coordinates, communication/emergency notification, medical info and emergency contacts for rescue personnel, etc). It’s extremely reassuring for me and my family to know that this piece of equipment is now very unlikely to be separated from me or lost whilst in the mountains, which I think is the most important factor of using my KOALA.
